Why the approval for our settings comes from the USCCB

Updated: Aug 29, 2020

Our antiphons have been approved for liturgical use in the United States of America by the USCCB. We are not supposed to go to the local bishop, because our music is for the entire USA. Listen to the statement by OCP on February 28th, 2019:

"OCP publishes music and other resources for use by the Universal Church in the US and throughout the world. That is why OCP submits materials to the US Bishops; they are the primary authority over our publishing efforts, in terms of the annual cycle of permission requests, review and approval."

This is quite an important statement from Oregon Catholic Press, currently headed by Archbishop Alexander K. Sample. Let's review their statement again; it was made on YouTube and in writing on February 28th, 2019:

"OCP publishes music and other resources for use by the Universal Church in the US and throughout the world. That is why OCP submits materials to the US Bishops; they are the primary authority over our publishing efforts, in terms of the annual cycle of permission requests, review and approval."
